Python Lesson 1

L/O: To understand and be able to use basic Python Syntax

Starter - 10 minutes


Kahoot - how much do you know now?
Use a memorable name...we will try again another day!

Main - 45 minutes


RED TASK

  • Create a Folder in Sites/Computer Science called Python Training
  • Open a new file in IDLE to start coding...
  • Log into your email and take a look at your Google Classroom at your first assignment

AMBER TASK

  • From the Start menu select ALL PROGRAMS > ICT & BUSINESS > IDLE (Python GUI)
  • For each new program created you have to start a new Python file by clicking File > New
  • Save each program you make in your new Python Training folder

GREEN TASK

  • Follow the steps in the tutorial below to understand how to use the print function
 

EXT TASK

  • Create your own programs that output your favourite food/sports/films. Remember to save each as a new file.
  • Sign up to Codecademy.com
  • Can you research how you will be able to allow the user to input some information?

Jot down 10 top tips you would give someone taking the ICT web exam this week


Main 


Your Task 1:

Design a top tips poster in Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Publisher, Adobe Photoshop or paper

Here are my tips:


  1. Highlight / under line the 20 requirements in the paper
  2. When creating a new template remember the '2/6/11' rule.... Blank Template 2 / HTML 6 / 2 column left liquid 11
  3. Think about audience / purpose for every decision
  4. 6 marks in evaluation = make 6 different points
  5. Should only have one template file (in templates sub-folder)
  6. Web pages must be HTML files.
  7. No marks for ASP pages :-(

Top Tips

L/O: To be able to work on an exam paper in preparation for your web exam

OUTCOME: You will have worked your way through the exam and feel more confident

Starter - 10 minutes

  1. Create a new folder and call it 'Final Practise'
  2. Open Adobe Dreamweaver
  3. Manage your sites!! 'Sites - Manage Sites' and choose the Final Practise folder and click ' Select' (DO NOT select any other folder!!)
  4. Create a new template and 5 pages from it
  5. Work through the RAG tasks below!


Main - 50 minutes


RED TASK
Put some images inside the folder

How to crop an image in Photoshop:

AMBER TASK
How to change the size of an image in Dreamweaver:

How to position an image/text wrap in Dreamweaver:

GREEN TASK 
Put some video inside the folder

How to embed a video in Dreamweaver:
Click on your chosen page in the design view and go to 'Insert --> Media --> Plugin'
 Choose movie.mov
 Click on the video in your design view and change the size to be a 4:3 ratio i.e. 400x300
 Click on 'Parameters
 Add the 'autoplay' parameter and make it 'false'


Extension Task

Complete an evaluation of your microsite using the EVALUATION.doc (6 marks)

Last lesson before your web exam!!

L/O - To continue to develop an understanding of the web exam - To evaluate your website design

OUTCOME: You will complete the evaluation for the practice exam for 4 Toonz Radio this lesson

Computing Focus Week Starter

Starter - 5 minutes

  1. Read through the 4Toonz Radio exam paper again (HERE as well as the paper copy in the drawer) - what do you need to do today?? Write yourself a list if this helps!
  2. Manage your sites - YOU MUST DO THIS FIRST!!!
  3. Take another look at the example website
  4. Lastly, take look at the paper copy of the Exam Guide (or if you prefer, use the digital copy HERE)

Main - 50 minutes


RED TASK


You should have these already but CHECK!!:
  1. Manage Sites
  2. Open your template and make sure that the width is set to 100%
  3. Edit the template colour scheme to match the brief
  4. Ensure that you have a navigation bar and that the template is saved as a template
  5. Create a suitable banner using appropriate software (make it 1024 x 250 pixels)
  6. Add the banner to your page -100% width
  7. Create the pages you will need from your template
  8. Link your pages together using the required structure
  9. Read the exam and add the required content to your pages
  10. Take a look at the example website and see if you have missed anything required


AMBER TASK


Complete the evaluation (inside your ASSETS folder called evaluation.doc). Try to write at least THREE paragraphs!

GREEN TASK

Have a go at marking your own work

Plenary - 5 minutes
