Year 10 overview

Starter - 10 minutes

This year you will complete your On a Mission unit from Year 9. You should by now have completed ALL paperwork and designed ALL of the elements for your game - if not this must be completed in clinic time after school!!

Now you will have until Christmas to create the following:

  1. The game itself
  2. A test plan showing testing throughout
  3. An instructions booklet
  4. A promotional video
  5. A magazine review

Look at the brief here to remind you of the unit (it's been 6 weeks!!):

Here is an example of a completed ePortfolio for a similar Game Authoring unit:

Having already completed some basic GameMaker tutorials you can now use the tutorials in File Store - Read - ICT - Miss_Rymill - Game_Authoring or BELOW to create your game from scratch. You must work independently on your game and follow instructions carefully. If you get stuck, read back through instructions as 9 times out of 10 an error will be due to an incorrect instructions in a sequence.

Lastly, if you didn't do so before summer, download this Test Plan and save it in Development - and use it to record EVERY error message!!

Here is an example of a test plan:

For 11 marks (FULL MARKS), a student must have recorded progress from the initial moodboard,
through design, prototyping and testing, to the final game and include evidence of:
• the entire design process with evidence of extensive testing and detailed
response to user feedback
• full justification of design decisions
• development of a wide range of effective assets.

Main - 40 minutes

Your main tasks:

  1. Check the progress tracker
  2. Update your assets table. You should have downloaded this already and added it to your EVIDENCE folder - but it is here too: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9fI45E6a9sKTFdoTldPdWZkVHM/edit?usp=sharing
  3. Start to design your game in GameMaker (Start - All programs - ICT & Business)
  4. Use the Test Plan to record any errors (take a screenshot) and how you overcame them.
*If you are stuck, simply practise one of the tutorials below or have a go at editing one of the Template Games so that you can see how they work!!
