Vector vs Bitmap

LO: To appreciate the differences between Vector and Bitmap images and be able to identify the suitability of both types so that an informed decision can be made when designing

Starter - 10 minutes:

Create a blog post researching the difference between a VECTOR and a BITMAP image. Describe where both may be used and provide examples of them.

Why were you asked to create a Vector Graphic for your logo and not a Bitmap? (DiDA SPB)

Why would I use Illustrator instead of Photoshop, or even Word...?

Main - 45 minutes:

You will need to add some text regarding Vector/Bitmap to your Design Logs, but first take a look at these two examples and grade them...

For 1 mark, a student may have needed guidance, but must have used vector tools

to develop some elements, demonstrating limited awareness of audience and

purpose.

For 3 marks, a student must have used vector tools to develop some elements,

that meet most of the requirements and demonstrate some awareness of audience

and purpose.

For 5 marks, a student must have used vector tools to develop elements that meet

most of the requirements and demonstrate good awareness of audience and

purpose.

For 7 marks, a student must have used vector tools to develop a collection of

elements that meets the requirements and demonstrates sound awareness of

audience, purpose and medium.

For 9 marks, a student must have developed a collection of effective elements

that meets the requirements and demonstrates astute awareness of audience,

purpose and medium.

WHY did you give this grade? What made one better than the other? What could show that you have a sound awareness of the audience??
