PhoneBrain, the nationwide, award-winning, education programme, has launched its 2013/14 challenge.
As we all know, young people are spending even more time on smartphones and tablets. While there is great fun and great content to be found on the mobile internet, costs can add up. News stories throughout the year have told tales of young people running up bills totalling £1000s using smartphones and tablets.
The competition:
We are asking school students to come up with an idea for a simple digital tool – 1) an app, 2) a game, 3) downloadable music or 4) a downloadable video – to help young people manage their costs on mobiles, smartphones and tablets.
The winners of the PhoneBrain challenge will be announced on Safer Internet Day on 11 February 2014 in London, with a cash prize of £500 for the best school student idea.
I would like ALL of you to come up with an idea for ONE of the above.

- My idea is to design a game to help youngsters manage mobile phone costs.
- The main character for the game will be a teenager. The game will consist of 5 levels. Each level will have a series of paths that the teenager can travel down. The paths will contain paid for apps and the teenager must avoid these - collecting as many free apps as they can. The final level will take them to the high score page - showing how much money the teenager has spent on apps!
- The game is designed to educate youngsters about the costs of apps.
